It's sad that oil companies practically plan for disasters like this to occur. BP had this oil rig, and all others, insured for far more than it's actually worth. It's shameful BP is not being held completely responsible when they're going to be making money from this disaster. There's something not right about a company that slacks or neglects safety precautions, shrugs at their responsibilities, and banks off of a spill. When the stakes are as high as they are a multi-billion dollar company should not be gambling our well-being on a potential environmental catastrophe.
Can we please just move away from oil now? Now is a better time than ever before.
This is pretty funny, but also a stupid measure of how much money BP has lost. A decline in market capitalization does not represent "money lost" per se, unless you are talking about the money that the owners of BP lost.
Really, BP has spent about $4B on cleanup, and the projected cost of all of the damage is about $20B. Still a ton of money, but only about 1/4 of what this thing claims.
Don't think I would want anything. I hate the BP story, it's been a huge Media manipulation so that some people could make loads of $$$. Is that the change your president promised? He played the world for a fool. He does do some good things, it is just the BP story that makes me fume!!! Deepwater_Horizon was leased to BP from Transocean.
Just check wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deepwater_Horizon_oil_spill
Or the Transocean Website: http://www.deepwater.com/fw/main/Home-1.html
BP didn't build the rig or the faulty equipment.
If you catch a cab to go from A to B and during the journey the cab happens to flatten a school girl on a zebra crossing at night. Even if you had told the cab driver to step on it, turn the lights off and if he doesn't do as you say he wouldn't get paid. Who is in the wrong? It is your fault that the cabby was doing that journey but the Cab driver is fully responsible.
There are lessons to be learned from this story and it may make us move towards renewable energy faster. It is sad that we needed spills to realize it.
Woah, slow down. A fall in stock price is not the same thing as BP losing money. Their shareholders may have lost money, but the stocks will likely regain some of their value in the future.
Oh-me-gosh! All ready have five 3 wolf moon tshirts. Are you saying i could have one for EVERYDAY of the week!? Hold on, I'll bust out the sharpie and start deciding which days I'll give the ones i own. I'm thinking they'll be my sunday and weekday shirts, save the rattiest one for hump day, and the new ones for my weekends out at local tea party gatherings, nra meetings, and bar fights at my local pubs. I CAN'T WAIT!
Ok, Anonymous BP story hater. I hate it too. I hate that the world is full of people who are just looking to get rich and gain profit at the expense of other people. However, it is completely unfair to pin everything that goes wrong on Obama. He is not a dictator and the power is not all in his hands. It is not fair to Obama, Congress, or America as a whole. You're tired of hearing about BP? I'm tired of hearing about Obama being used as a scapegoat.
FYI, I don't think either Obama or McCain would have made a good president, however that's not the only reason our country is currently in the crisis that it's in.
So... instead of changing the entire planet for the worse they could have changed the entire planet for the better? Nahhh.. screw the planet. Its all about profit. Right?!?
It's sad that B.P. is so terrible but nobody is going to do a thing about it because this is the laziest generation i the history of the world. I have to go now, sitting n my pajamas using stumble!
A good concept, but it should be redone because (as noted by someone else) the $100B loss to stock holder value has NOTHING to do with "Things BP could by." Redo using the cost of cleanup and other expenses/losses to BP.
they would have kept all this money for themselves to put in there massive bank accounts. they would prefer to have lost it in the sea than to give anything away!
Why... I-DA-HOE?
